"As you enter positions of trust and power, dream a little before you think." - Toni Morrison
One of my all-time favorite quotes and an irresistible invitation.
It’s an invitation to pause, not just before action, but even before thought. After all, dreams come to us in the silence.
It’s an invitation to zoom out. Dreams don’t emerge from a problem-solving or task-focused orientation, they are non-linear. Dreams bring together ideas and concepts from disparate places and make something new.
And, to me, it’s a reminder to use our power to change the nature of the game itself.
When we remember that everything about our world - including the very nature of how we live and work - was someone else’s dream before it became our reality, we also remember that it’s our responsibility to make space for new better, more equitable dreams and use our power to make them a reality.
